About me

Hey there!

My name is Naz, and welcome to Naz Writes, my personal blog! 😊

After spending years in the online space writing content to help my audience (and, mostly, myself), I realized my work was all over the place with no proper system to retrieve or reshare it. I always felt like I had to “repost” things, or they’d end up forever buried under new content. After letting the idea sit in my head for so long, I finally decided to just give this a go.

I’ve made plenty of excuses for myself, but I had an epiphany while watching Project Hail Mary at the cinema last night (real-time stamp! 😆). It’s a classic case of finding inspiration in the least expected places, like in the middle of a cinematic masterpiece 🍿

That’s how Naz Writes was born.

Unlike my social media, newsletter, and sales pages, my goal for this blog is clear: I don’t want to put my products at the center. I don’t want to sell you too much stuff, too many times. I will still sell, BUT I want this blog to be a resource hub or a knowledge-rich space for anyone figuring out their own journey.

That’s why you’ll find this blog is content-heavy and covers various topics within my realm—everything from copywriting and remote work to freelancing and moving abroad. It’s basically a map of my adult life, featuring lessons I’ve learned and things I’m still figuring out.

My backstory

I was born and raised in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and have spent my whole life living in the city. After finishing SPM (the Malaysian national high school exam), I spent four months in a matriculation college, before enrolling at a local university in Malaysia, IIUM. That’s where I completed my foundation program, followed by my bachelor’s and master’s degrees 🎓

I studied Bachelor of Arts in English for International Communication and later pursued a Master of Education (TESL), but the funny thing is, I never actually pursued a career in education. While finishing my master’s, I had already started working as a copywriter.

My career began in the freelance world before I transitioned into a 9-5 setting, working as both an agency and in-house copywriter. Then, in late 2022, I left the 9-5 life behind to go full-time as a freelance copywriter. Since then, I’ve worked with a wide range of clients, projects, and industries. During that time, I was also very active on Twitter (X), which led to several speaking engagements where I shared my journey and insights on copywriting 👩🏻‍💻

In 2024, I launched my own program to mentor beginner copywriters navigating their own paths. In the midst of all this, I got married and began a new chapter abroad. I moved from Malaysia to the UAE in 2023, and in 2025, I moved again, this time to Saudi Arabia.

Throughout these moves, I’ve continued my copywriting career remotely. It has certainly been full of challenges and lessons, but this journey has been incredibly meaningful, Alhamdulillah. My path hasn’t been a straight line, and there were plenty of hiccups along the way—but I believe those are exactly what gave me the strength and resilience I have today.

My life challenges

In 2018, during the third year of my degree, I fell ill. While it wasn’t a terminal illness, Alhamdulillah, it was enough to completely alter the direction of my life. I had to take a semester off to recover, and when I finally returned to university, I struggled a lot.

My friends were there for me, but my productivity, focus, and grades were all over the place. The illness didn’t just go away; in fact, it was amplified by the stress of my environment.

I don’t talk about this part of my life often these days, but I’ve realized that sharing this story might give someone else the strength and hope they need.

Part of the reason why I wanted to pursue a remote career back then was a physical necessity, I didn’t want to bear long commute to and from work. During that semester off in 2018, a friend actually introduced me to the world of online business as a skincare reseller.

I am still so grateful to her for opening that door for me. With zero prior experience, I just dived in and learned as I went. I taught myself online marketing from A to Z, and that is also when I first discovered marketing and copywriting.

By the time I graduated in 2020, I was still managing my health, but I refused to give up on my career. This is why copywriting made so much sense to me. Since the pandemic was still new and many companies were shifting to remote work, I realized I could do this from anywhere.

That was the true beginning of my copywriting career.

I feel weird to even say this because back then, I couldn’t find the “good” in my journey. But looking back at 2018, I never would have imagined that a season of sickness would be the very thing that paved the road to where I am now.

What felt like a setback at the time was actually a setup for the life I live now. It forced me to think outside the box, to embrace the digital world, and to build a career that could travel with me ❤️‍🩹

Today, as I sit in my home in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, I realize that my journey wasn’t delayed, it was rather redirected. Those hiccups gave me a level of resilience I wouldn’t have found otherwise.

If you’re currently in a season where things feel all over the place or your health is making the path feel impossible, please know that your timeline doesn’t have to be a straight line to be successful. Sometimes, the detours are where we find our greatest strengths.
