I’ve been creating content online for a few years now, but there’s one thing I wish I'd learned much sooner:
Social media is like a rented land.
If you rely entirely on algorithms to reach your audience, you’re building your business on a foundation that can be quite rocky.
It took me way too long to realize this, but starting an email list completely changed the game for me, and it can do the same for you too - if you haven't build an email list yet.
#1 Email list = Best digital asset
An email list is one of the best digital assets you can build.
Why? Because it lets you write and publish your work without an algorithm deciding who gets to see it.
Nothing here depends on a trending sound, a shadow ban, or a sudden algorithm update.
It's simply you and the people who chose to hear from you - your email subscribers.
#2 Rental land vs your own home
Think of social media like rented land.
You don't own the platform, and your content lives on someone else's terms.
You have to follow their house rules. And they can change the algorithm, or the entire platform, overnight.
Your email list is different. It's your own home. No matter what happens on any social media app, your inbox stays yours.
#3 Feed vs inbox
Social media is where people first find you. It's where you create content that gets your ideal audience curious enough to follow you.
But some topics need more context than a feed allows.
This is where I love having an email list.
I can write and pour my heart out here, and you get the full story.
Your email list is where your audience actually gets to know you - and where they're far more likely to buy from you.
Through their inbox, you have their full attention, instead of competing with a hundred other posts in their feed.
And from my experience, most of the sales from my workshops, programs, and digital products have come from my email list - which is wild!
Considering I don't even have more than 1500 subscribers yet.
What exactly is a "third option"?
๐ It's building income and an audience that isn't tied to one job, one platform, or one place. It moves with you wherever life goes next.
#5 Don't underestimate your followers and silent fans
The people who like, comment, and save your content? And the one who occasionally slide into your DM?
They are the same people who'd happily read you in their inbox too.
I know, because I notice every follower and subscriber who shows up and engages (thank you! ๐).
This is to say that you don't need a lot followers, you just need some quality ones - people who actually enjoy what you put out there.
And if you already have some people who follow you on social media, it is easier to invite them to subscribe to your email list.
How can an email list earn you income? ๐
If you are using your social media to sell any kind of products, physical or digital, or doing affiliate, having an email list is just another next step!
Whatever you're posting about on Threads or IG, you can bring that same offer straight to your inbox.
You don't need a fancy funnel to start selling.
Your list is just a more direct line to people who already want to hear from you.
What to do next? โจ
๐ Pick one email platform this week and set up your very first sign up form.
๐ Message 5 of your most engaged followers, the ones who comment or DM you often, and personally invite them to join your list.
P.S. If you already have an email list but don't know what to send, reply to this email and tell me. I might just turn it into next week's newsletter.
